2013 - Greetings From Californa
In Greetings From California I digitally revisit my hometown and surrounding locations in Westlake Village, California. While maintaining the illusion of real-life change I physically manipulate the images taken from Google Street View into more pristine landscapes. I remove pieces of roads, cars, street lamps, signs – changing highways into mountains, streets to beaches, buildings into lakes, adding trees and clear skies. I use composited Street View photographs as a way to virtually document and physically remodel territories into something that looks like its dissolving and virgin. It’s like attempting to describe a ghost or a dream - always falling increasingly out of view - into the void of fantasy, nostalgia and memory. My process is dedicated to the longing to experience my home environment unaffected by human influence, a desire I know I will never succeed at with Google photographic artifacts.
